TED Talks Are Setting the Bar High for Public Speaking

Top communication theorist and coach, Nick Morgan asks if Chris Anderson’s TED Talks: The Official TED Guide to Public Speaking will improve presentation giving globally; just as the TED program itself has inspired so many people too. See my summary of his article from Forbes below.

 

  • Gone are the dull, bullet-pointed presentations of the past; TED has inspired a new age of public speaking; shorter, sharper, and wittier—and increasingly personal too
  • Compressing things down to a finer point is all very well as long as valuable content is not missed out in the process just to save time
  • Anderson’s most unique piece of advice is that there isn’t a ‘rule’ you can’t and shouldn’t break if it works to improve your speech—be flexible rather than immovable
