Coffee and Your… Poop
Katherine Marko of The Alternative Daily shares some of the science behind why coffee makes us got to the bathroom. Read on for more information.
- Considered a diuretic, studies show that those who drink coffee regularly build up a tolerance to such properties, but coffee can be a stimulant behind your bowel movements
- This may be due to the chlorogenic acid in coffee, which triggers high levels of digestive and stomach acid (helping you need the bathroom quicker)
- Your morning routine could also play a part too; your bowels tend to stick to a daily schedule—only 30 – 40% of the population actually react to the laxative effects of coffee
