The Coffee with the Biggest Boost

The Inertia’s Joe Carberry enlightens us on which coffee we should be choosing in the morning to get the largest caffeine hit to start us on our day. Read my key points below.

 

  • 12 oz. of drip coffee comes in at 240 milligrams per ounce, while the espresso has the highest caffeine content with 2 oz. containing 150 mg
  • The coffee bean itself means a difference in content too; Robusta coffee beans contain twice as much caffeine as Arabica, but the latter makes up 70 % of world beans
  • Grinding is another factor; the finer the grind, the more caffeine can be extracted, just as temperatures between 90 and 96 ℃ force more out too
