Drop It Like a TED Talk

Jeff Haden’s article on Inc will certainly inspire those in the run up to their public speaking events. Even if you’re not giving a TED talk, the insights he shares are great techniques for everyone. More in my summary below.

 

  • Engage your audience by being sincere with them; sharing your real emotions will create a true connection with your audience
  • Give them something to act on; inspiration is not enough, follow it up with a call to action, something they can do
  • Don’t wait until the end for questions, if people are engaged and ask them in the middle of your talk, answer them
  • Have two contingency plans in place, decide what your worst fear will be in the middle of your presentation and have backups to cover them both
